How We Started

In summer of 2019, a group of veteran healthcare experts, technologists, and business leaders sat in a board room and agreed “there has to be a better way for organizations to follow up on insurance claims.” From years of witnessing and experiencing firsthand the struggles in healthcare revenue cycle, they determined to find the best solution possible. Healthcare rev cycle technology is notoriously outdated and incredibly inefficient, and this group of individuals decided to approach it head-on in an innovative way. This conversation laid the groundwork for Vispa.

After implementing the beta solution with just one client, rumors of Covid-19 began to fill the air. By March 2020, organizations were beginning to send employees to work from home due to the global health crisis. Looking for a fast solution to maintain contact with those at-home workers was a large Illinois-based healthcare system. Among the top priorities were remaining in contact with remote employees and ensuring their support, while also driving cash when it was needed most.

Many in the industry said a remote implementation simply could not be done –especially with a huge provider. Whether it be from desperate times or the entrepreneurial spirit, the Vispa team resolved to take on the challenge. The implementation was not without hurdles, ranging from managing the conglomerate of data to plugging into EHR giant Epic. Despite all odds, the Vispa solution was implemented successfully in the matter of only a few weeks juxtaposed with a standard 6-month implementation seen with competitor solutions.

With extensive experience in other industries, the technical team paved new and innovative solutions yet to be seen by healthcare revenue cycle –notably giving work queues the boot. A user-friendly interface with intuitive prompts, easy to find information, and next-level automation continues to give organizations a leg up. Since implementing the beta Cash Flow solution, Vispa’s state of the art development team continues to refine and perfect the solution suite.

Within 60 days of implementation, the Vispa partner beat their June 2020 cash goal by over $20M and decreased their days in A/R by 17 days amidst the height of the pandemic.

Through the pandemic, a small team that was told they would never break into healthcare emerged victorious. A champion of self-improvement and partnership, Vispa CEO Geneva Schlabach’s trademark statement is “nobody does anything of significance alone.” The required hustle forced this statement into reality, and it continues to be a hallmark of the Vispa team.
